Branson, MO – Myer Hotels is pleased to announce the celebration and achievement of 40 years in the lodging industry.

Since 1968 Myer Hotels has evolved from a single location, The Elms Motel in O’Neill, Nebraska to five national award-winning properties in Branson, Missouri. The Myer family has been in the lodging business in Branson for over 25 years and currently owns and operates the Best Western Center Pointe Inn, Best Western Music Capital Inn, Comfort Inn West, Comfort Inn at Thousand Hills and the Comfort Inn & Suites in Branson Meadows.

Dedication to excellence, hard work, and commitment to a dream characterize the lives of Carroll and Janice Myer. “What started out 40 years ago when my parents left farming, has steadily grown into a business that has exceeded anyone’s expectations” stated Gail Myer, Vice President of Operations.

Owning motels and hotels in Nebraska, Colorado, Arkansas and Missouri has been the pathway to success of the Myer family. Through the years, Myer Hotels have been innovative in offering luxury hotel amenities at a reasonable rate. Carroll Myer was the first to install such amenities as direct dial telephones in Northwest Arkansas and one of the first to offer indoor swimming pools to Branson. Carroll Myer continues to reinvest and upgrade the hotels on an annual basis looking for the next thing that will make the hotels even better.

Myer Hotels’ commitment to excellence in the lodging industry has been demonstrated by a steady stream of national awards with many from Choice Hotels and Best Western International. Since 1993 the company has received over 75 national awards. Out of more than 1,360 Comfort Inn worldwide locations, The Comfort Inn & Suites in Branson Meadows was one of only three finalists for Comfort Inn of the Year at the 2008 convention. The Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized the Comfort Inn & Suites as 2008 Small Business of the Year.

The business has been a family affair with involvement from two sons, Gail and Chris Myer. Gail is the Vice President of Operations; Chris is the Vice President of Marketing. Their wives Mary Ann and Sonja both work in the accounting department. Carroll and Janice Myer focus their time on special projects.

“We appreciate all the relationships and community support that have developed over the years and look forward to continuing our relationship with the Branson community. Branson is a special place and we will do all we can to help maintain Branson as a family friendly destination,” said Gail Myer.

Saluting great entertainment from the G.I. shows of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, Danny Curtis’ Road to Hope will be presented during Veterans Homecoming to help a Branson veterans group.

“I am pleased to help the local Vietnam veterans group with their outreach program and bring my show to Branson,” said Danny Curtis, who is the creator and star of Road to Hope and himself a veteran of the Korean War. He served with the 24th Division 19th Regiment 1955-1957.

Danny Curtis’ Road to Hope is set for Nov. 4-10 at the Gene Williams Showcase Theatre in the Branson Mall, 2206 W. Highway 76. Part of the proceeds of every ticket sold will go to help the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 913 for their “Veterans of the Global War on Terrorism” program. Shows are at 10 a.m. on Nov. 4, 5, 6 and 10 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7, 8 and 9. Veterans and active military receive a $3 discount off the regular ticket price of $21. For tickets and information, call the box office at 417-335-4400.

“This is a show beginning in the World War II era that is presented by a Korean War veteran to help Vietnam veterans who in turn will help Afghanistan and Iraq veterans,” said Bill Groninger, president of VVA Chapter 913. “It is time now to try to help the next generation of warriors, because we know what they have experienced, and so we must help the vets returning from Afghanistan and Iraq who are fighting the global war on terrorism.”

VVA Chapter 913 recognizes and honors local veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. The chapter’s “Veterans of the Global War on Terrorism” program includes annual sponsorship of a veteran recently returned from Afghanistan or Iraq. Help can include financial assistance, a monthly stipend and other benefits. The chapter’s Second Saturday Breakfast with Buds extends an invitation to different groups of veterans to have breakfast together at a local restaurant.

Road to Hope is a music and comedy revue recreating the entertainment that the servicemen and servicewomen welcomed with laughter and applause. It follows the careers of Bob, Bing and Dorothy reaching into their movies and pulling out many of the songs that made the trio so famous in the 1940s through the 1970s. It includes 12 great numbers such as Academy Award-winning songs Thanks for the Memory, Buttons and Bows and Swinging on a Star that are performed traditionally and with comedy. Costumed numbers such as Road to Morocco complete with fezzes, harem dancers and camel jokes, and Hoot Mon from Road to Bali done in kilts with Scottish humor and dancers, are highlights of this Broadway-style production.

Another highlight is a reenactment of the 1943 Pepsodent radio show broadcast from the Hollywood Canteen for the service men and women of the armed forces – complete with sound effects, zany characters and movie stars of the day.
“This show brings back many wonderful memories for those over 40 and creates many lasting memories for those under 40. It’s a nostalgic trip with comedy and musical rest stops on the Road to Hope,” said Curtis.

A veteran performer, Curtis has appeared with Dick Cavett, Rodney Dangerfield, Red Foxx, Gabe Kaplan, Eartha Kitt, Rick Nelson, Ray Romano, Joan Rivers and Bobby Vinton to name a few. He has performed in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Caesar’s Resorts, Dangerfield’s Comedy Club in New York City, on cruise ships, ABC TV’s America’s Funniest People and Comedy Central.

Curtis’ straight man is Michael Wright, a multifaceted entertainer, singer, comedian and actor. He appeared in two HBO movies: as Richard Dreyfus’ brother in Lansky and as legendary journalist Walter Winchell in The Rat Pack. He was a regular on The Uncle Floyd TV Show.

Completing the trio is Rebecca Lee Lerman who recently appeared in Cambodia Agonistes at New York City’s West End Theatre. She has worked as a choreographer for Albany’s (N.Y.) Capital Repertory Theatre and was directed by Richard Crittenden in roles such as Mercedes in Carmen, Adina in The Elixir of Love, and Sister Blanche in The Dialogue of the Carmelites.
