Branson Landing of Branson, Missouri, has been recognized by International Society of Shopping Center (ICSC) at its 2008 World-Wide Awards, receiving first place as Mixed-Use Retail Project Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project. Branson Landing is a master planned development including waterfront shopping, dining, living and entertainment ( $7.5 million night-time water feature that integrates light, fire, water and music) venue. It has redefined and reestablished the viability of the downtown area and the entire community.

New York (PRWEB) December 6, 2008 — Throughout its history, the International Council of Shopping Centers, Inc. (ICSC) has recognized and honored the shopping center industry’s most cutting-edge, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, as well as outstanding examples of design and development through its Global Awards programs. As part of the shopping center industry’s premier awards competition, ICSC is pleased to announce that Branson Landing, Branson, Mo., has won a Design Award in its annual International Design and Development Awards competition. Since its inauguration in 1977, the ICSC International Design and Development Awards program has recognized outstanding projects for excellence in the creation of new retail projects, and in the expansion or redevelopment of existing projects, both internationally and domestically. This year, there were 63 entries representing 25 countries in the competition. (Editor’s note: For more detailed information, http://www.icsc.org/icscdesignawards/index.php)

ICSC announced the winners of its 32nd Design and Development Awards last evening at a gala awards ceremony during ICSC’s CenterBuild Conference in Phoenix, Ariz. The annual competition focuses on two general categories: Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project and Renovation or Expansion of an Existing Project. Branson Landing won its award in the Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project and Renovation category. In this category, entries can include a project involving an entire shopping center, such as an enclosure, or a single entries must relate to a specific new shopping center, completed and opened within a 24-month period; July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007; and demonstrate how a specific design or construction problem was solved or how new standards in design and construction were established.

Branson Landing is a distinctive and popular destination, with its performance venues and amusement parks along Highway 76. Branson Landing is distinctive to the community, holding the singular position as the only downtown waterfront shopping, dining, living and entertainment venue. It is a remarkable master planned development for its unique context and character. It has redefined and reestablished the viability of the downtown area and the entire community. Truly spectacular, as well, is its $7.5 million night-time water feature that integrates light, fire, water and music. Branson Landing is owned and developed by HCW Development Company, LLC.

Winners in the 32nd International Design and Development Awards will automatically be eligible to win ICSC’s Global “Best-of-the-Best” Award which will recognize the shopping center industry’s most outstanding examples of cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends throughout the world. These awards will be given during a gala awards ceremony during “A Night of Stars” at ICSC’s annual convention, RECon, being held May 17-20, 2009.

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its more than 70,000 members in over 90 countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, retailers and brokers, as well as academics and public officials. Pearl Harbor Remembrance

Posted In: City News by BroadcastBranson.com

On Sunday December 7 at 10:30 am, the Branson Veterans Task Force will remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor at the Branson Landing Cruises. Attendees will gather at the ticket office before boarding the boat for the ceremony. Following a short program and remembrance ceremony, Pearl Harbor survivors will lay wreaths honoring those who died that fateful day in our history. Afterwards, coffee, hot chocolate and light refreshments will be served.

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan,” began President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s address to Congress on December 8, 1941.

The Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor and on the airfields of Oahu began shortly before 8:00am on December 7, 1941 and ended shortly before 10:00am. Although the Americans fought back with antiaircraft fire, the devastation of the airfields was quick and thorough. The Japanese successfully crippled the Pacific Fleet, sinking three battleships, causing another to capsize, and severely damaging the other four.

All together the Japanese sank or damaged 18 ships, including the 8 battleships, three light cruisers, and three destroyers. On the airfields the Japanese destroyed 161 American planes and seriously damaged 102.

The Navy and Marine Corps suffered 2,896 casualties; 2,117 dead and 779 wounded. The Army (as of midnight, 10 December) lost 228 killed or died of wounds, 113 seriously wounded and 346 slightly wounded. In addition, at least 57 civilians were killed and nearly as many seriously injured.

The Japanese lost 29 planes over Oahu, one large submarine (on 10 December), and all five of the midget submarines. Their personnel losses (according to Japanese sources) were 55 airmen, nine crewmen on the midget submarines, and an unknown number on the large submarines. The Japanese carrier task force sailed away undetected and unscathed.

Thus began US involvement in World War II. On December 8, the US and Great Britain declared war on Japan. On December 11, Germany declared war on the US.

“We must never forget those who died that day and all who fought in World War II. They preserved our freedom and defined our future,” said Steve Weyher, co-chair of the event.

Branson Veterans Task Force Board Member Rob Dixon is co-chair with Steve Weyher. The Branson Veterans Task Force holds activities year-round to commemorate important events in our history and to honor our veterans. Their office is located at 138 Pointe Royale Drive in Branson. To contact the office call 417.337.8387 (417.337.VETS) or visit www.bransonveterans.com.

Presley to seek second term as Branson mayor

Posted In: City News by BroadcastBranson.com

by Springfield Business Journal Staff

Branson’s first female mayor has announced that she will seek a second term.

Mayor Raeanne Presley, co-owner of Presleys’ Country Jubilee, said her name will appear on the April 7 ballot – though at this time, it is unknown who will run against the incumbent.

Residents can begin seeking candidacy for open city posts Dec. 16, according to the city clerk’s office. The filing period closes Jan. 20.

Presley’s campaign said she has supported tourism, open government, fiscal responsibility and regional cooperation.

“Residents who take pride in this area’s quality of life understand the importance of maintaining Branson’s success as a tourism destination through organization, vision, and a commitment to the values that put Branson on the map,” Presley said in a news release.

Her public service record spans 25 years at both the city and state levels, including 10 years on the Branson Board of Aldermen (1985-1995) and six years on the State Tourism Commission (2001-07), which she served as chairwoman for two years. Presley chaired the Skaggs Community Health Center Board of Directors and was the founding chair of the Skaggs Foundation. She also was chairwoman of the Springfield/Branson National Airport Board for two years.

Other seats up for election include Alderman Ward I, where Bob McDowell now serves; Alderman Ward 2, where Sandra Williams is the incumbent; and Alderman Ward 3, represented by Stephen Marshall, the clerk’s office said.

For more information about filing for these seats, call the clerk’s office at (417) 337-8522.
