No one really wants to think about Norovirus, but just one outbreak can ruin a vacation for a family, and a vacation season for a business owner. You can help protect our community and our guests by participating in a FREE Norovirus training seminar, hosted by the Taney County Health Department, September 29th, 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the Chateau on the Lake Resort, Spa, and Convention Center.

The free seminar will provide attendees with information to reduce the risk of spreading illness through proper cleaning procedures, prevention methods and education. The seminar provides important information for business owners and managers to assist in developing training programs in their facilities, and how to act in the event of an outbreak.

Anyone working in retail, food service, lodging, or entertainment businesses, from front-line workers to management, should plan on attending this important seminar

The seminar will provide a wide range of information about Norovirus including

  • Describe principle characteristics of Norovirus
  • Discuss previous Norovirus outbreaks
  • Discuss clinical symptoms of Norovirus
  • Procedures for proper cleaning and proper use of personal protective equipment
  • Cleaning products for effective disinfecting
  • Reporting procedures for notifying local public health agencies
  • Ideas for developing and implementing an employee training program

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services have revised immunization requirements, effective for the 2016-2017 school year. The new requirements include the Meningococcal vaccine for all students entering eighth (8th) and twelfth (12th) grades. Students cannot attend school unless they are properly immunized and can provide satisfactory evidence of the immunization or unless they are exempted.

The Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV) prevents meningitis which is an infection than affects the blood stream, brain, and spinal cord. Teens and young adults are at increased risk of getting this infection which is spread person-to-person. 2016-17 School Immunization Requirements for 8th and 12th grade students:

Students entering eighth (8th) grade are required to have one (1) dose of Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV);

Students entering twelfth (12th) grade are required to have two (2) doses of MCV upon enrollment. If your child received a dose of MCV at age 16 or older, only one (1) dose will be required for enrollment;

As previously required, a tetanus, dipteria,and pertussis (Tdap) booster is required for students entering the eighth (8th) grade.

The Taney County Health Department provides this vaccination at both Branson and Forsyth locations. The meningococcal vaccine is available to all ages and is recommended for all children of all ages. For those over the age of 16, the vaccine is one dose and provides lifelong protection.

  • Bring a copy of your child’s up-to-date immunization record
  • A parent or guardian MUST be present for a child to receive a vaccination at the health department
  • Fees may apply, depending on insurance status
