Flooding conditions have stabilized in the residential and commercial areas along Lake Taneycomo in Branson. The Corp of Engineers has notified the City they expect to lower the gates at 5:00 p.m. today reducing flows from an estimated 72,645 cubic feet per second to 47,000.
“We are hopeful this change will allow the water on Lake Taneycomo to recede to a level allowing water to evacuate from homes and city streets that have been closed,” stated Fire Chief Ted Martin. Several residential areas in the City including homes in the Lakewood Estates Subdivision and in the areas of Sunset and Alexander Parks near Canal Street remain evacuated due to impassable roads or flooded homes.
The shelter located at the Salvation Army Church operated in partnership with the American Red Cross will close at 5:00 p.m. tonight with staff on-call to re-open the shelter if necessary. The shelter is expected to be demobilized tomorrow. “The Salvation Army reports the remaining flood victims needing assistance have been placed in a local motel,” stated Chief Martin
The City’s Recycle Center re-opened today as the access road became accessible to the public. The City Parks including Stockstill, Sunset and Alexander will remain closed until further notice. The City Campground remains closed and Parks employees will open spaces as water recedes and areas can be made ready for campers. The Branson Community Center and Senior Center will make a decision Thursday morning if they will open to provide services including the lunch meal program for seniors.
A reception center has been opened at the Faith Lutheran Church located at 221 Malone Street near the Lakewood Estates Subdivision. “This site has been established as central point of contact for city services and to learn more about resources such as electrical service restoration and water restoration companies for flooded homes,” stated Martin. The reception center will be open until 6:00 p.m. today and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Branson Flooding Update [edited]

Flooding conditions have stabilized in the residential and commercial areas along Lake Taneycomo in Branson. Resources have been allocated through the City’s Emergency Operations center for barricading flooded streets and establishing a shelter for residents displaced from their home.
“Tablerock Dam is currently flowing just over 67,000 cubic feet per second from the flood gates and generators,” stated Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin. The lake level as of noon on Tuesday is 932.6 and the Corp of Engineers expects Tablerock to crest at 933.5. “The Corp of Engineers has shared with us as weather conditions improve they expect to reduce releases from the dam and thus improve conditions downstream on Lake Taneycomo to the homes, businesses and streets affected by flooding,” stated Chief Martin.
Flooded streets in the Lakewood Subdivision caused residents from 53 duplexes to evacuate their homes. “The streets in this subdivision are privately owned within the subdivision,” stated Chief Martin. Approximately 120 single family residences from Parnell Drive upstream to Pointe Royale have been affected by water rising in the neighborhoods. “Most of these homes are not accessible due to high water, have water up to the house, water in crawl spaces and some with water in basements.” Several of these areas have had electrical services cut off by Empire District Electric Company to reduce risk and impact to the utility infrastructure.
Several City streets remain closed including Lake Drive, Hawthorn, Sunset Road, and the northern portion of Parnell Drive. These streets have been closed and residents are encouraged to avoid these streets due to high water, some water flow may be swift moving and dangerous.
A shelter continues to operate at the Salvation Army Church located at 1114 Stanley Street. The shelter is being supported by the Red Cross in partnership with the Salvation Army. Residents in the Branson area that have been displaced from their homes due to flooding may use the shelter. The contact for the shelter operations is Salvation Army volunteer Janetta Shoopman at (417) 213-1094.
City facilities have also been impacted by the flood waters. The Branson Community Center is closed and has caused Senior Center activities including meals to not be prepared. The Recycle Center is also closed and residents may use alternative resources including portable recycle trailers located at the Methodist Church and Tantone Recycling. City Parks are closed including Stockstill, Alexander, and Sunset. Several sanitary sewer lift stations are operating on generator power due to high water and the lift station serving the Sunset Park area has been turned off. Utilities crews are pumping waste water and hauling by truck from the affected areas.
The Branson community continues to be open for business. “Most of the flooding affects residential homes with some commercial impacts along the Branson Landing Development,” added Martin. The Branson Landing has a phased program to secure infrastructure as the water rises. All of the businesses at Branson Landing were open for business on Tuesday according to mall management. The affected area is a narrow path along Lake Taneycomo.
Mayor Karen Best complimented the services provided by City staff operating the Emergency Operations Center located at Fire Station #1 and crews working in the field to provide services to the residents. “We have a lot of residents in these homes that have voluntarily evacuated for their safety,” stated Mayor Best. “I’m currently displaced from my home due to high water and am thankful city staff are monitoring flood conditions, communicating with the Corp of Engineers, and doing everything possible to keep our residents and visitors safe.”
City staff will work to keep current road closures and information pertaining to the flooding on the city web site at www.bransonmo.gov. Branson Emergency Management may be contacted at (417) 337-8584 or by emailing [email protected].

The Branson Public Works Department will be conducting its annual Spring Cleanup beginning Monday, November 2nd through Thursday, November 5th, to help residents properly dispose of large unwanted items at no cost. This is a semi-annual event which is part of an ongoing effort to keep Branson beautiful.

The cleanup service is available for individual residents of Branson, but not for businesses or commercial entities. This provides residents within the City Limits the opportunity to get rid of large unwanted and difficult to manage items like old appliances, furniture and mattresses which are not typically picked up by residential trash haulers.
The pick-up date for Ward 1 is on Monday, November 2nd, Ward II is on Tuesday, November 3rd, and Ward III is on Wednesday, November 4th. Brush and limbs will be picked up in all three wards on Thursday, November 5th.

If a resident is unsure of their ward residence, they should refer to where they voted in the most recent election. If persons voted at the Community Center on Compton Drive, they are in Ward I. If they voted at the Presbyterian Church in Downtown, they are in Ward II; and if they voted at the Methodist Church on Highway 76, they are in Ward III.

A map of the city’s three wards is available online at www.bransonmo.gov.

All items, including brush must be at the curb by 8 a.m. on the day of pick-up. Crews will not backtrack. Items not placed out for pickup by the deadline will NOT be picked up and will not be eligible for participation in this city service. Property owners who miss the deadline must make separate arrangements on their own to have the materials picked up.

Limbs and brush do not need to be bundled, but must be cut and stacked at the curb in manageable 4-6′ piles. No more than one dump truck load of limbs and brush will be hauled from any one residence.

City crews WILL NOT collect tires, batteries, televisions, computer monitors, bagged leaves or household hazardous waste products. City crews will not pick up garbage normally collected by private refuse haulers. Here is where those items can be disposed:

  • TIRES: Taney County Transfer Station Call 336-6589
  • HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS: Accepted year round at Branson Recycle Center, located at 601 Compton Drive, in Branson. The center is open Monday thru Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • ELECTRONICS: The Best Buy store in Branson Hills recycles household electronics. See “recycling” at www.bestbuy.com for details. The Staples store on Highway 248 in Branson will also accept household electronics of all kinds. Also, Computer Recycling of Springfield accepts TVs and computers for a small fee. Call 417-866-2588. Call or check web sites for hours and what items they will accept.
  • BAGGED LEAVES: The nearest options to dispose of green waste are the Hansen’s Tree Service facilities in Reeds Spring and Ozark. Call Hansen’s at 272-8733 for information. Sunny Hills Garden Center in Kirbyville also accepts bagged leaves and other yard waste, year round. Call 417-339-4437 for information.
