Branson School District Rolls Back Tax Levy

The annual levy hearing, as required of all Missouri public school districts, was conducted during the Branson School Board’s monthly meeting held last Thursday.
The board approved a proposal by Dr. Hayter, superintendent, to roll back the levy nine cents (five cents in operating and four cents in the debt service) making it $3.86. This voluntary rollback will save district patrons $600,000 in taxes for 2010.

“We want to roll the levy back for two reasons,” said Dr. Hayter. “The district is in a solid financial position; and we know our patrons are facing tough economic conditions. If we can make ends meet with 9 cents less, then we should – as a district – operate in this manner.”

“This is not to say that an increase may not be needed in the future,” added Hayter. “But for now, the roll back is the right thing to do.”< [...]

Andy Williams returns to the stage, Thursday evening at 7:00pm. Area appreciation discounts will be offered starting with this Thursday evenings show and running through the Sunday September 5th evenings show. Tickets are only $10.00 each for local residents of Stone, Taney, Greene, Christian, and Ozark counties in Missouri as well as Boone and Carroll counties in Arkanasas. Children 17 and under are free and tickets are available at the box office with ID.

At the end of every season, something called “The Branson Shuffle” takes place. This happens when shows move from one venue to another, but very seldom does it happen in the middle of the season. That will change Sept. 3 as the Osmonds move from Music City Centre to the Yakov Smirnoff Theatre.

“We are thrilled that it worked out this way,” Jimmy Osmond said. ”We needed a place that would allow us to accommodate the demand on certain dates, especially around Christmas.”

According to Osmond, the demand to see the show on several dates during Christmas season is what prompted the move.

Music City Centre seats 664 people, while Smirnoff’s theater seats more than 2,000. With a move to a larger venue, the brothers can welcome more guests to the show.

September 18th at 10:00 A.M. a “Silent March” will be held starting from the former Whelchel Funeral Chapel parking lot, 310 S. Commercial, Branson. A beautiful and moving ceremony will be held in observance of the tragedy which changed the world. 8:00 A.M.will be held at Branson Landing. Ground zero survivor of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, Sgt. Maj.
