Taney County, Missouri, February 11, 2010:\u00a0\u00a0 On February 8, 2010 the Taney County Commission adopted the following proclamation:<\/p>\n
PROCLAMATION IN SUPPORT OF CENSUS EFFORT<\/p>\n
WHEREAS, an accurate census count is vital to our community and resident\u2019s well-being by helping planners determine where to locate schools, day-care centers, roads and public transportation, hospitals and other facilities, and is used to make decisions concerning business growth and housing needs; and,
\nWHEREAS, more than $400 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to states and communities based on census data; and,
\nWHEREAS, census data ensures fair congressional representation by determining how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts; and,
\nWHEREAS, the 2010 Census creates jobs that stimulate growth and increased employment opportunities in our community; and,
\nWHEREAS, the information collected by the census is protected by law and remains confidential for 72 years; and,
\nWHEREAS, it is important to support census takers as they help our community complete an accurate count;
\nNOW, THEREFORE, we PROCLAIM that the County of Taney is committed to partnering with the U.S. Census to help ensure a full and accurate census count.<\/p>\n
The State of Missouri will lose 1.3 million dollars in the next decade for every 100 people who choose not to complete the census form.\u00a0 That\u2019s $1,300 per person per year.\u00a0 In 2000, Taney County had a return rate of only 60%.\u00a0 We strongly encourage all citizens in Taney County to participate in the census because \u201cit is the best thing you can do for your family and your community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
