Please join the White River Valley Historical Society Sunday, March 8th, for our Spring Quarterly Membership Meeting and enjoy another program on Dance in the Ozarks. This time, we will explore clogging. Clogging is a traditional folk dance that was born in the Appalachian Mountains. It\u2019s danced in tap shoes with double taps on the heels and toes and it has some elements of tap and Irish step dancing.
\nThe thing that people notice most about clogging is its speed. Our presenter is \u201cKicks Studio\u201d, which is the home of High Voltage National Champion Competition Teams. Kicks Studio\u2019s mission is to provide high quality clogging instruction that promotes self esteem, builds self confidence and develops lifelong relationships. They represent the modern-style clogging that is sweeping the nation as one of the fastest growing dance forms today, along with staying true to traditional clogging footwork.<\/p>\n
Kicks Studio is located in historic downtown Nixa, at 111 South Main Street, and features three instructors and five levels of dance instruction, for ages 5 through adult. Instructor Kelle Graves has been competing nationally for over 22 years. She is the Director of High Voltage competition teams, teaches advanced & competition classes, and has performed at Silver Dollar City, Baldknobbers Theatre, & the Grand Ole Opry. Shari Jones has been teaching for 11+years–teaching all ages from beginner to adult.<\/p>\n
Tori Jones has been clogging for 11 years, since she was 5, and assistant teaching for 3 years. She recently won 1st Overall Female Champion in both regional and national competitions.<\/p>\n
The meeting will be held at The Taney Center, 20130 US Highway 160, east of Forsyth. Social time begins at 1:00 pm, and the program will start at 2:00 pm. The meeting and refreshments are free, and the public is encouraged to attend. The White River Valley Historical Society preserves, protects and promotes the cultural history of the White River Valley, concentrating on Taney County, Missouri.
