The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services have revised immunization requirements, effective for the 2016-2017 school year. The new requirements include the Meningococcal vaccine for all students entering eighth (8th) and twelfth (12th) grades. Students cannot attend school unless they are properly immunized and can provide satisfactory evidence of the immunization or unless they are exempted.

The Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV) prevents meningitis which is an infection than affects the blood stream, brain, and spinal cord. Teens and young adults are at increased risk of getting this infection which is spread person-to-person. 2016-17 School Immunization Requirements for 8th and 12th grade students:

Students entering eighth (8th) grade are required to have one (1) dose of Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV);

Students entering twelfth (12th) grade are required to have two (2) doses of MCV upon enrollment. If your child received a dose of MCV at age 16 or older, only one (1) dose will be required for enrollment;

As previously required, a tetanus, dipteria,and pertussis (Tdap) booster is required for students entering the eighth (8th) grade.

The Taney County Health Department provides this vaccination at both Branson and Forsyth locations. The meningococcal vaccine is available to all ages and is recommended for all children of all ages. For those over the age of 16, the vaccine is one dose and provides lifelong protection.
