MoDOT is performing its second 24 hour closing of the Kimberling City Bridge this week.

From 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, both lanes of the bridge will be closed to allow contractor crews to continue with repairs to the overhead steel truss structure on the bridge.

During the closing no traffic will be allowed across the bridge. Drivers will have to use Route 86, Route 65, Route 76, Route 248 and other state routes in the area to get around the bridge closing.

The bridge closing will be postponed to begin in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 24th, or the week between Christmas and New Year’s if rain or snow prevents the closing.

MoDOT reports there will be at least two more 24 hour closings of the bridge prior to its completion on Memorial Day in May 2016.

The Kimberling City bridge which carries Route 13 traffic over Table Rock Lake will CLOSE for 24 hours beginning at 7 am on Tuesday December 8, and lasting until 7 am Wednesday, December 9, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

During the closing, NO TRAFFIC will be allowed across the bridge.

Drivers will have to use Route 86 , Route 65, and other state routes in the area to get around the bridge closing.

MoDOT is working with emergency responders to develop plans to reduce response times during the major traffic restriction.

During the closing, contractor crews will make repairs to the overhead steel trusses on the bridge. NO TRAFFIC can be on the bridge other than the work vehicles needed to complete the repairs.

The work is part of a larger project to make major repairs to the Kimberling City bridge. Total cost of the project is $10 million. The project is set for completion prior to Memorial Day in May 2016.

Delays of up to six minutes can be expected at the bridge

Kimberling City – The long-term traffic impacts start Tuesday, September 8, at the Kimberling City bridge that carries Route 13 traffic over Table Rock Lake, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Drivers can anticipate up to a six minute wait to cross the bridge as contractor crews begin work to remove the bridge deck or driving surface one-half at a time.

Temporary traffic signals, installed at either end of the bridge, will regulate one-lane traffic across the bridge for the duration of the project. MoDOT traffic engineers working with the signal contractor will monitor the operation of the traffic signal to make sure it is working as efficiently and as effectively as possible.

Drivers who pull up to a red light will have to wait to allow all traffic coming from the opposite direction to “clear” the bridge before receiving a green light to proceed. Traffic sensors in the pavement will alert the signal controller that traffic is waiting.

Area drivers are urged to allow extra travel time to make it to their destinations.

Also, the open lane on the bridge will be narrowed significantly. Large recreational vehicles will find the open lane to be very confining. They are urged to allow extra travel time across the bridge or find an alternate route.

Project Summary:
• Replacing the bridge deck one-half at a time
• Replacing bridge components in areas
• Painting areas of the bridge
Prime Contractor: Phillips Hardy, Inc. of Boonville
Completion Date: May 2016
Total Project Cost: $10 million.

Convoy of Hope is in Oklahoma offering help. Trucks from the Springfield based charity rolled out early Tuesday morning, loaded with relief supplies. The agency responds to disasters across the globe. Although it hurts even more when one hits close to home, the organization can respond especially fast.

Convoy of Hope staff were mentally preparing, even as the tornado hit. “We watched the storm as it was hitting, and based on those reports, we knew it was going to be pretty significant,” says Kirk Noonan, Convoy of Hope Vice President of Communications.

They actually had a crew in Oklahoma assessing the damage from an earlier storm. “So they just drove on over to Moore, and they saw it and they started phoning back in, and we realized this was going to be a major disaster and that we’d need to move into a full scale response,” says Noonan.

An important part of that response is communication, planning where to send supplies. Convoy staff work with federal, state and local agencies. Noonan says, “In a disaster situation, there’s a protocol that you have to follow, and we like to be a part of that protocol and be helping rather than hurting the community when you go down there.”

Two truck loads of non-perishable food, water, Powerade and other emergency supplies left before sunrise. Their mobile command center also headed to Moore.

“They work with partners on the ground, and we find out where we can be utilized the best to help people most efficiently. Once we get that set up, then we start sending down waves of teams that will help with distributing the food and supplies and also getting involved with some of the debris removal,” says Noonan.

Convoy of Hope staff are prepared to be in the devastated community for the long haul. “Obviously, it’s still developing, but based on the storm track, it looks like it could be a Joplin-sized response, and we’re still, 2 years later, still responding to Joplin. We’re still rebuilding homes there,” says Convoy of Hope Executive Vice President Jim Batten.

Convoy of Hope and other relief agencies have set up easy ways to donate dollars to their efforts. To donate to Convoy of Hope, text the word “Convoy” to 50-555. Or visit www.convoyofhope.org

Emergency Managers Gather To Plan For Disaster

Hollister, MO (January 31, 2012) – Leaders from public safety agencies throughout Taney County gathered at Taney County Ambulance District on Friday, January 27 to practice managing a local disaster. The virtual event presented a large aircraft emergency at Branson Airport. Representatives from local agencies discussed how their personnel and resources would respond to such an event.

“This exercise provided a great opportunity for responders to see each other in person and review emergency operation plans,” said Chris Berndt, Taney County Emergency Manager. “Also, this allows agencies to finalize and review their plans prior to the full scale exercise in March.”

Emergency managers and public safety personnel will gather for a full-scale disaster exercise at Branson Airport on March 3, 2012. The FAA requires Part 139 commercial service airports, like Branson Airport, to conduct a tabletop emergency drill annually and a full scale emergency drill every third year.

“Safety and emergency preparedness are two of our highest priorities at the Branson Airport,” said Jeremy Berven, Director of Operations at Branson Airport. “This exercise, along with the drill in March, allows us and our community partners to focus on these items.”

Just days ago, Southwest Airlines announced that it was committed to serving Branson Airport. It plans to convert AirTran Airways at Branson to Southwest Airlines operations over time. Southwest also announced that it will commence daily non-stop service from Branson Airport to both Chicago Midway Airport and Houston Hobby Airport starting April 16, 2012.

Western Taney Fire Assistant Chief Bruce Bjorge shows a map of the Branson Airport to the group.

The exercise was coordinated among leaders in the same way an Emergency Operations Center would be set up in a similar situation.
