The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats are gearing up for a benefit game and activities, Rebound and Rebuild, to be held Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. Current and former Lady Bobcats will reunite for a basketball game. Attendees may take part in a silent auction or kid’s activities, get an autograph from current players, have a chance to win door prizes and enjoy other entertainment.

Price of admission is donation-based; all proceeds will go to Joplin High School. If individuals cannot make it, but would like to offer a donation for the cause, they may contact Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Becky Vest at [email protected] or (417) 690-2547.

Eighteen College of the Ozark students accompanied by six WWII Veterans, will travel abroad to France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.

The trip, which will last from June 2-16, will provide students with the experience of a lifetime, as the Veteran’s guide them through the lands where they once fought.

The six Veterans going on the trip served in either the battles of D-Day, Berlin, or the Battle of the Bulge. Of the Veterans John Primerano, Lou Rabesa and Andy Anderson will be traveling with C of O students for the first time and will join returning Veterans Bill Kamsler, Bryan Sperry and Ned Knapp.

While in Normandy, the students and Veterans will have an in-depth visit to the Normandy American Cemetery, where they will attend the official commemorations of the 67th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

In Berlin, they will tour the Allied Museum in the former Headquarters of the American Forces, which commemorates the generations of soldiers and their families who protected Berlin during the Berlin Airlift.

The last evening of the trip, the group will visit the site where Germany finally surrendered on May 9, 1945, which is now known as the German-Russian Museum.

This trip is part of College of the Ozarks Patriotic Education Travel Program, whose mission is to educate younger generations about the sacrifices of American soldiers so that their stories will never be forgotten. Since the program’s beginning in 2009, more than 100 students have escorted WWII Veterans to battlefields and American cemeteries in England, France, Germany, Belgium, Tunisia, The Netherlands, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Hawaii.

COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS GRADUATES RECORD NUMBER OF STUDENTS AT ITS 104TH COMMENCEMENT

At the 104th College of the Ozarks Commencement, a record number of 338 students received their bachelor’s degrees.

Among the bachelor candidates was the second class to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College’s nationally-accredited Armstrong-McDonald School of Nursing. Two ROTC cadets, Austin Truelove and Brent Turpin, were commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Army.

The College also awarded three honorary degrees in recognition of outstanding achievement and greater distinction in professional and civic leadership.

In honor of her public service to Missouri and the nation, the College presented United States Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson (Missouri, 8th District) a Doctor of Public Service.

Dean of the College Dr. Marilyn C. Graves received a Doctor of Laws for her 40 years of dedicated service to College of the Ozarks.

Vice President Dr. Howell W. Keeter, too, was awarded a Doctor of Laws for his 40 years of dedicated service to College of the Ozarks.

Congresswoman Emerson, the first Republican woman to represent Missouri in Congress, gave the Commencement address. She shared with students the importance of preparation and hard work for leadership in the 21st century.

Commencement was held the afternoon of May 8.

COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS ACADEMIC DEAN RECEIVES DOCTOR OF LAWS IN HONOR OF 40 YEARS OF SERVICE

For her 40 years of dedicated service to College of the Ozarks, Dean of the College Dr. Marilyn C. Graves received an honorary Doctor of Laws at the 104th Commencement, held May 8.
It is customary and proper for institutions of higher education to confer honorary degrees to recognize outstanding achievement, public service and leadership.
Dr. Graves began working at the College in 1970. Since that time, she has been a professor, coach, division chair, and now Dean.
Dr. Graves started the women’s basketball and volleyball teams and served as their first coach. She also has been instrumental in the administration and organization of the annual NAIA Men’s Division II Championship hosted by the College annually.
This past fall, the College announced that the new practice gymnasium of the athletic complex would be named for her.

Dr. Keeter began working for the College in 1970. Since that time he has served as the Work Coordinator, Chancellor, Board of Trustees member, interim President, and now Vice President.
He is an avid support of the College’s athletic program and was instrumental in helping the College become the host school of the annual NAIA Men’s Division II Basketball Championship.
This past fall, the College named its athletic complex in his honor.

U.S. CONGRESSWOMAN JO ANN EMERSON RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTOR OF PUBLIC SERVICE FROM COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS

For her public service to Missouri and the nation United States, Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson (Missouri, 8th District) received an honorary Doctor of Public Service from College of the Ozarks during its 104th Commencement. Congresswoman Emerson gave the Commencement address at the ceremony, sharing with students the importance of preparation and hard work for leadership in the 21st century.

“We have the ability to work as hard as we want—funny how no one factors that into the pursuit of happiness,” she said. “But, the truth is that they are inseparable.”

Since becoming the first Republican woman to represent Missouri in Congress, the Honorable Jo Ann Emerson is currently serving her eighth term in the United States House of Representatives. She has been a leading advocate for farm families and the promotion of America’s agriculture, hunger relief, pro-life issues, and access to safe, affordable prescription drugs.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Emerson is the Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee and also sits on the Agriculture Subcommittee and Legislative Branch Subcommittee.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1972 from Ohio Wesleyan University.

SUBJECT: AMERICAN RED CROSS OFFERS SWIM LESSONS AT COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS

College of the Ozarks, in conjunction with the American Red Cross’ “Learn to Swim” program, will offer swim lessons from April 11-22, at the Howell W. Keeter Athletic Complex Natatorium.

Lessons are offered to children ages six months through 15 years. The “Parent and Child Aquatics” program, available to students six months to four-years-old, will begin at 5 p.m. nightly. The “Learn to Swim” program, available for students ages five to 15, will be offered in two different sessions. The first session begins at 5:30 p.m., and the second begins at 6:15 p.m. Participants will be divided into groups based on abilities, and each group will have its own instructor.

There are eight lessons in the program, and the registration fee per student is $45. Participants may register beginning Monday, March 28, by calling Associate Professor of Physical Education Bill Keeter at (417) 690-2567 or C of O Athletic Department at (417) 690-2565.
