Branson, MO – Vocalist Laura Didier and pianist Jim Martinez present “A Jazz Tribute to Doris Day” starting Tuesday, Nov 8 running through Wednesday, Nov 16, 2011. Performances are at 12 noon & 5 pm daily and will take place at The Club @ Lodge of the Ozarks, 3431 W. 76 Country Blvd, Branson. Laura Didier, from Sacramento, CA, has been performing steadily with the Jim Martinez Trio since early 2007. Didier has performed at major Jazz festivals in California, Idaho, and Canada including the famed Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Didier spent the past 20 years supporting the military career of her husband, a Lt Col and fighter pilot in the USAF. In August of 2011, they celebrated his retirement and returned to their home state with their three sons.

A classically-trained pianist also based in Sacramento, CA, Jim Martinez has performed or recorded with notables like Lionel Hampton, the Stan Kenton Band, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Christian McBride, Benny Golson, Roy Hargrove, and Ed Thigpen, who was the first drummer with the Oscar Peterson Trio. Martinez has worked as pianist and musical director for Joan Rivers and Bob Newhart, and he was recently named to the International Artist Roster of Steinway & Sons.

Martinez and Didier have presented their show nationally from retirement communities to performing art centers. Their tribute is the only one endorsed by Ms. Day. Jim and Laura have also been the only artists chosen to entertain at her Carmel, CA hotel, The Cypress Inn, for her annual birthday celebration.

This special Branson appearance at the 1940’s-style supper club will include stories, highlights and colorful images from Ms. Day’s career. Didier and the Jim Martinez Trio will also perform many of Doris Day’s popular hits spanning five decades, including “Sentimental Journey”, “Secret Love” and “Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be”).

Recently, Ms. Day had this to say: “Jim, thanks for the tribute” and “For Laura, a beautiful lady and a wonderful singer!”

Churches Support CAM with Food Drive

September 28, 2011… On Saturday October 1^st, a number of local churches are coming together to support the Christian Action Ministries’ food pantries in Branson and Forsyth.  According to CAM board member Larry Johnson, “This is a great way to start the Fall season by helping CAM to stock up our shelves at the pantries.  CAM was founded by 11 churches over a quarter century ago and the continued support from area churches is critical to our longevity in serving those in need.”

Donation stations in Branson and Hollister will be set up at the following grocery stores:

Apple Market, manned by Branson Nazarene Church.

Country Mart (North) by Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.

Country Mart (South) by Branson Christian Church.

Harter House by Peace Lutheran Church.

Sun Fest by Branson United Methodist Church.

Additionally, there will be a donation station at the Forsyth Sav-a-Lot with volunteers from the Lutheran, Calvary Full Gospel, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches in Forsyth.

Branson’s WalMart Super Center will be the location of a donation station later in the month on October 29^th.

CAM is currently serving an average of over 800 families per month through their two pantries, as well as distributing another 140 deliveries of food to outlying areas on the first Wednesday of each month. Celebrated tribute artist production ‘Legends in Concert’ announced today that they have signed a multi-year, multi-dimensional agreement with
Jim D. Morris, the new owner of the Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater. The new relationship will allow one of the most successful shows in Branson history to enjoy many more years at its current home and state of the art venue.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Jim D. Morris whose name is iconic in the Branson and Springfield communities, and throughout Missouri.” said Jeannie Horton, General Manager for Legends in Concert. “He has a 50 year track record as a distinguished businessman and his name speaks for itself.”

KCOZ Radio Station Changes To Christian Format

College of the Ozark’s radio station 91.7 KCOZ transitioned from broadcasting light jazz to contemporary Christian today.

C of O junior Jacob Poole, who serves as the KCOZ program director as his college work education assignment, will oversee the Christian music selection. Fifteen other KCOZ student workers will aid Poole in the transition.

KCOZ also will broadcast live chapel services being held at the College’s Williams Memorial Chapel every Sunday beginning at 11a.m.
