As some of you may know local entertainer Cody Dooley (A Country Legacy – Fountains of Country ) was recently hospitalized from air escaping into his chest and throat. Although he has been cleared to return to performing, he is still undergoing testing and treatment to find the cause of the problem and prevent it from happening again. Cody is the only source of income for his family of 5, has no medical insurance, and during the hospitalization, they were also displaced from their home.

A third grade class at Hollister Elementary is sponsoring Take Flight Veterans’ Night at the McDonald’s on West Highway 76 next to Ride the Ducks on Thursday, October 7, from 4-8 p.m. as a fundraiser to support Ozarks Honor Flight. Students will be greeting veterans and customers with McDonald’s donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the Ozarks Honor Flight Program which flies WWII Veterans to Washington, D.C. to view the memorial built to honor their service. The students will have the opportunity to hear two World War II Veterans speak to them on October 5th and 6th. Additionally, the veteran father of one of the students will also visit the class. Teacher Amy Jo Kilgore has made it her mission for her students to understand veterans’ contributions and arranged for the service-learning project so they could demonstrate their support and appreciation.
