By: Chelsea Kliethermes

College of the Ozarks will hold a formal dedication for its Veterans Grove, a newly planted tree grove in honor of the 51 Veterans who have accompanied C of O students on trips to visit historic WWII sites. The dedication will take place from 2 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, on the Alumni Center Lawn.

Thirty-one of the 51 Veterans and two widows of Veterans, along with their families, will attend the dedication. There, Veterans will reunite with students who accompanied them during their trips to England, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Tunisia, The Netherlands, Okinawa and Iwo Jima.

Each Veteran is honored with the planting of a Sugar Maple, which is aligned with others to created the same unique pattern of the marble crosses at the American cemeteries in Europe. Next to each Sugar Mable is a bronze marker with a Veteran’s name. The College Historians student organization assisted with the planting and will help with maintenance of Veterans Grove.
