Branson Community Celebrates 50 Years of Live Music Shows

Branson, MO – (Friday, September 18, 2009) – Saturday, October 3, 2009 will be there night to “Party with The Stars”.  The party begins at 9:00pm at the Chateau on the Lake Resort.  The League of Branson Theatre Owners & Show Producers (The Branson Show League) and Branson.com invite the public and everyone who lives and/or works in Taney or Stone County to join us as we “Celebrate 50 Years of Live Music Shows”… and the people who made it all possible!  Jeanie Horton, Legends In Concert General Manager and President of the Branson Show League said, “This is a party for all of us…from the show that started it all to the housekeeping staff that makes sure our visitors have a comfortable stay.  It’s more than just celebrating 50 years of shows; it’s about celebrating the people who really make Branson what it is.”  For complete details go to www.PartyWithTheStars.com.

Meet the Artist at Mount Pleasant

We are proud to announce that Mount Pleasant Winery in Branson has partnered with the Branson Arts Council to display the works of talented Missouri artists in our winery.

We invite you to “Meet the Artist” on Friday, September 18th from 5pm to 7pm as we toast Missouri artist Jim Rodgers.  Wine and cheese will be served.  Admission is free.

Mr. Rodgers is an award-winning artist.  He portrays a variety of subjects with his acrylic and oil paintings, such as wine and cheese, fruits and vegetables, landscapes, portraits and even the Branson Belle!

Mr. Rodger’s work will be on display at Mount Pleasant Winery in Branson for six weeks.   Most of the art will be available for sale.

In partnership with the Branson Arts Council, we will announce a new artist every six weeks with a wine and cheese reception.  Please join us for our first “Meet the Artist” event this Friday.

The New Beginnings Fellowship Youth Group will wash cars to raise monies to defray funeral costs for the family of Youth Pastor, Nate Mitchem who passed away on September 11th.  Mitchem is survived by his wife, Crystal and young son, David and other family members.

Saturday will be the perfect sunny day, in which to have your car washed at Wal-greens in Hollister located on the corner of Industrial Park Drive and Birch Street.   The New Beginnings Fellowship Youth Group will begin washing cars at 10:00 am and the final car will be washed at 3:00 pm.

Contributions will be appreciated…even if you don’t get the car wash.

Branson Mayor to receive Missourian Award

Branson Mayor Raeanne Presley will be honored with the 2009 Missourian Award at a black tie ceremony on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, Mo. Presented by the American Heart Association, the Missourian Award is given annually to nominees who have made an outstanding contribution to their state or nation in civics, business, education, politics or the arts. Mayor Presley will become part of a long legacy of honorees who have contributed to the betterment of their communities. Governor Jay Nixon is the Honorary Chairman of the Missourian Award.

Thirteen men and women will be honored this year at the 16th annual awards banquet. Proceeds for this annual event are to benefit the American Heart Association.

“These awardees have dedicated their lives to making their communities and this state better by their diligent work and their charitable ideals,” said Kevin Harker, Executive Vice President of the American Heart Association, Heartland Affiliate. “We applaud their accomplishments, celebrate their award, and appreciate their commitment.”
Elected in April 2007, Raeanne Presley is serving her second term as Branson’s mayor. She is co-owner of Presley’s Country Jubilee Theater, which was the first music theater to open on the world famous Highway 76 “strip”.
Ms. Presley has over 30 years experience in the travel industry and is the immediate past chairman of the Missouri Tourism Commission. She is active in the Branson community having served on the Branson Board of Aldermen, on the Skaggs Community Health Center Board of Directors, the Springfield/Branson Airport Board and numerous other civic boards.

She and her husband Steve have three children who work and perform at their theater.

Other 2009 award recipients from southwest Missouri include Frederick McQueary, board chairman and chairman emeritus, McQueary Brothers Drug Company in Springfield; Neil Wortley, CoxHealth administrator emeritus; Dr. Patricia Dix, a perinatologist at CoxHealth and Bradley Bradshaw, a Springfield lawyer and trained physician and surgeon.

Late Lebanon businessman Robert Plaster, president and chairman of the board of Evergreen Investments LLC, will receive the award posthumously.

Past Missourian honorees have included such stalwart individuals as newsman Walter Cronkite, developer John Q. Hammons and Bass Pro Shops founder John L. Morris.

“Missourians are among the top business leaders, educators, statesmen, writers and artists in our country,” said Ralph Slavens, Chairman and Founder of the Missourian Awards Committee. “This year’s winners have achieved greatness.”
Tickets for the Missourian Award are $125 per person or $250 per couple. The Event at the Capital Plaza Hotel begins with a 5:30 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. dinner and awards ceremony. Master of ceremonies is Michael Nietzel, President of Missouri State University.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings.

Soldiers will be traveling from the Fort Leonardwood area to Branson on Friday to participate in the event. Area fishing guides, lodging establishments, entertainment venues and eatery establishments have graciously donated their time and resources to this event.
